This first novel of the four-part Twilight Saga follows seventeen year-old Bella Swan as she moves to small-town Washington to live with her father.
Here, Bella’s life changes forever when she meets teen vampire Edward Cullen.
The romantic relationship that develops between Edward and Bella is passionate,
often placing them in danger as they try to fit in with the other person’s
life. However, love reigns supreme as this couple sticks together to endure
numerous other obstacles over the extent of the Twilight Saga.
Evaluative Comments
Reading this book was an experience unlike any other for me.
Why? While reading it one is well aware of the teen hype surrounding this book
and the childish portrayal of love given here by Stephenie Meyer, but one
cannot also help but get sucked into the enduring love story of Edward and Bella. The writing style here was simple and unimaginative but the reader’s
desire for adventure and belief in love successfully draws them into this story,
regardless. One cannot claim that is book is a classic, nor deny that it is
terribly entertaining.
I would give this book an 8/10.
Suggested Audience
Ages 12 and up.
